Optimal dynamic tax evasion
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study optimal dynamic tax evasion in the framework proposed by Lin and Yang (2001) and Dzhumashev and Gahramanov (2011) with somemodifications: a more flexible utility function, a more realistic audit process, and a penalty function which can be defined both on evaded income and evaded taxes. In the former case the elasticity between tax rate and tax evasion is positive, unless the subsistence consumption level is higher than a given threshold. In the latter case the relationship is usually negative , but the value of elasticity depends on the form of absolute risk aversion. In particular we show that for increasing relative risk aversion, for a tax rate higher than 50%, the elasticity may even become positive. US data are consistent with IRRA preferences. & 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

An Optimal Tax Relief Policy with Aligning Markov Chain and Dynamic Programming Approach
Abstract In this paper, Markov chain and dynamic programming were used to represent a suitable pattern for tax relief and tax evasion decrease based on tax earnings in Iran from 2005 to 2009. Results, by applying this model, showed that tax evasion were 6714 billion Rials**. With 4% relief to tax payers and by calculating present value of the received tax, it was reduced to 3108 billion Rials. ...

N umerous studies have been conducted about the determinants of tax evasion. In all of these studies, this phenomenon has been taken into account in the framework of balanced budget and a non-oil economy. In this study the determinants are examined by extending an endogenous growth model and considering two cases for the government budget in an oil-exporting country along with its budget d...
متن کاملMonitoring Expenditures on Tax Collection and Tax Evasion: The Case of Iran
T he main aim of this paper is analyzing the relationship between tax evasion and the monitoring expenditure on tax collectionin Iran. For doing so, we have used a simulation model for determining optimal level of monitoring expenses on tax collection. The results showed that, a greater portion of government expenses must be allocated to monitor the tax collection, although do this reduces...

This article incorporates tax evasion into an optimum taxation framework with individuals di ering in earning abilities and initial wealth. We nd that despite the possibility of its evasion a tax on initial wealth should supplement the optimal nonlinear income tax, given a positive correlation between initial wealth and earning abilities. Further, even if income and initial wealth are taxed opt...
